The
Best Man's Checklist

Before
the Wedding
- Arrange for the
bachelors' dinner and/or party.
- Select a gift for
the
groom.
- Act as a liaison
for the
groom’s friends and family.
- Confirm honeymoon
travel
arrangements.
- Provide transportation for the groom to the
ceremony and then to the reception.
Before
Leaving for the Wedding Ceremony
- Help the groom
dress
and finish packing.
- Insure that the car
is
packed for the honeymoon.
- Insure there is gas
in
the groom's car and/or the honeymoon car.
- Check for the
wedding
ring.
- Prepare a reception
speech/toast.
Carry
these items as necessary:
- Travel tickets,
passport,
ID, etc.
- Car keys
- Money or travelers
checks
- Handkerchief
- Any gifts or
acknowledgments
- Checkbook or credit card for any needed
payments.
Before
Walking Down the Aisle and Following the Ceremony
Ensure
that the groom:
- Uses the restroom.
- His shoes are tied.
- His fly is zipped.
- His face and hair
are in
order.
- If vows are
written, that
he has them in his possession.
- Nothing’s between
his
teeth.
- Fear and second
thoughts
are calmed and put to rest.
- Signs the marriage
license.
- Pay the clergy fee.
During
and After the Reception
The
best man may need to arrive early and remain a little after, even
after the bride and groom departs. He may need to pay the vendors on
the groom's behalf, and ensure that the reception facility is left in
good order. Review the Best Man's Checklist
with the Groom a couple of days before the wedding date.
- Check the setup of
musicians or DJ.
- Make the speech to
the
bride and groom.
- Offer the first
toast.
- Dance with the
bride and
her attendants.
- Read telegrams or
special
mail for the bride and groom.
- Arrange for the return of all the tuxedo/suit
rentals by the prearranged deadline.

Best Man’s Panic Kit for the Groom
Here
are some helpful items that the best man should have with him for any
unforeseen moments. Throw them in a zip-up bag and keep them handy.
- Tylenol
- Antacid
- Hair comb or brush
- Black magic marker
- Small towel or paper towels
- Hair gel or
hairspray
- Extra toothbrush
and
toothpaste
- Deodorant
- Mouthwash
